Nuts and Dried Fruit for Healthy Snacking
By Admin on June 30th, 2010
Most of us like to snack between meals but unfortunately we often make the wrong food choices. The grocery store shelves are loaded with chips, cookies and candy and all too often it is these items that we buy to keep in our cupboards for snacking.
A much better choice when buying snacks is to purchase a few packages of nuts such as almonds, cashews or walnuts. Nuts are high in fiber, low in carbohydrates and are full of very healthy nutrients that fight cancer, lower blood pressure and which generally promote good health.
Another sound alternative to high fat snack foods is dried fruit. Today you can find all types of fruit that has been dried including dried mango, pears, apricots and peaches. Dried fruit is becoming more and more popular these days as more people are health-conscious and are trying to change their bad eating habits.
If you are a chocolate lover and simply cannot give it up, then you should consider purchasing some chocolate covered blueberries. Eating chocolate and especially the dark variety, has been proven beneficial as it serves as a natural anti-oxidant. Blueberries are one of the most nutritious of all fruits so pairing the two makes good sense.
